Malaysia\u2019s first Drone Testing Zone (DTZ) was established on 1 July 2019 in Cyberjaya during MyDroneX, providing a safe, controlled space for testing drone innovations. Notable projects include a drone food delivery at MyDroneX 2019, AONIC\u2019s Oryctes precision-spraying drone in 2020, and AirAsia\u2019s urban drone delivery demo in 2021.<\/p>

Another DTZ, which is the Drone & Robotics Zone (DRZ) in Johor, launched in 2020 through a collaboration with IIB Ventures, attracts Singaporean companies and fosters new businesses in the Iskandar region.<\/p>

1. What is the Drone Testing Zone?<\/h5>

The Drone Testing Zone (DTZ) is located at Obama Oval, Cyberjaya was established on 1st July 2019. The aim is to serve as a platform for drone players to test their drone innovations in a safe and controlled environment, which will help spur the the drone industry.<\/p>

DTZ Cyberjaya is the first approved drone testing zone by Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).<\/b><\/p>

Drone players and other interested parties who wishes to conduct testing, training and demonstration at DTZ may download forms as per above and email us at\u00a0hellofuture@futurise.com.my <\/strong><\/em>or\u00a0request at Futurise\u2019s website under Contact Us<\/i>.<\/p><\/div><\/section>

2. What are the mandatory requirements to use DTZ?<\/h5>

All Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS)\/Drone flight activities are bound to the Civil Aviation Regulation<\/b> and its Civil Aviation Directives (CAD). DTZ is NOT EXEMPTED from this rule. <\/b><\/p>

Drone players are required to acquire relevant drone flying permit before conducting any flying session.

3. What is the duration of the CAAM\u2019s permit application processes?<\/h5>

Drone permit MUST<\/b> be applied and acquired within fourteen (14) working days<\/b> before the intended flying date.<\/p><\/div><\/section>

4. How do I apply for the Standard Authorization to Fly (ATF) Permit?<\/h5>

For demonstration and training purposes, drone users need to apply for ATF permit.

5. How do I apply for the Special UAS Project (SUP) Permit?<\/h5>

For testing purposes, stakeholders are required to apply a different permit and undergo committee screening.

The agencies that are involved in the regulation of the Drone Testing Zone are:

3. Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM)
4. Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC)

8. How do I report for any safety issues, incidents or accidents occured at the DTZ?<\/h5>

Any safety reports of accidents and incidents shall be dispatched to CAAM within 48 hours of the occurrence coming to the knowledge of the person making the report (AIC 4\/2008).<\/b><\/p><\/div><\/section>

9. What are the penalty charges imposed for any offences commited at the DTZ?<\/h5>

The Penalty fees are currently enforced by CAAM.

The penalty fees imposed for convictions of offenses related to UAS regulations are as follows:<\/p>

  1. Individual \u2013 Fine not exceeding RM25,000<\/b> or imprisonment not exceeding 1 year<\/b>, or both:<\/li>
  2. Body Corporate \u2013 Fine not exceeding RM80,000<\/b><\/li><\/ol>

    1. Individual \u2013 Fine not exceeding RM50,000<\/b> or imprisonment not exceeding 3 years<\/b>, or both;<\/li>

      The First Autonomous Vehicle Testing Route in Malaysia<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

      The Autonomous Vehicle Testing Routes, or MyAV Routes is an innovation testbed that aims to support industry players within the Autonomous Vehicle (AV) industry in testing out their vehicles and collecting relevant data with regards to the autonomous vehicle industry. The first Autonomous Vehicle Testing Route in Malaysia was established on November 2020 in Cyberjaya, and was later endorsed by the Ministry of Transport, along with AV Testing Guidelines being established to ensure players to test in a safe and controlled environment, with eMoovit being the first company to undertake AV pilot testing.<\/div><\/div>

      Another MyAV Routes is currently being formed in Putri Iskandar, Johor and Putrajaya. The testbed in Johor will focus on the application of public transportation and electric bus, while in Putrajaya, the testing route will focus on the application of Connected ITS (CITS), along with Red Light Running, Sensor Pedestrian Crossing and Collision Avoidance (sudden braking).<\/div><\/div>
